Valentines Day in Africa and Australia

In South Africa Valentines Day is celebrated on February 14 every year. The country is one of the most romantic destinations because of its geographical location. Thousands of tourists come here to celebrate the festival of love. Most commonly the couples go out for a romantic dinner at a special place. At some places girls still follow the old Roma festival of “Lupercalia”. According to the traditions the girls pin on their sleeves the name of the boy they love. Sometimes the boys do this too.

In advance the shops are decorated with love symbols, flowers love birds, hearts and traditional African symbols. Long parties are organized in clubs and pubs. In South Africa the people of all ages can enjoy the Day of St. Valentine. The tourists and the native visit huge balls rooms where they can learn dancing. Usually on this day the native South Africans visit the national wild parks and sanctuaries with friends and families. Main attractions for this day are river rafting, visiting cape town and Johannesburg.

It is astonishing to know that the women are less romantic then the men in Austrania.41% of women buy Valentines Day cards against 58% for men. Probably this is the reason the Australians to prefer sanding paper cards then SMS or e-cards. Valentines Day is very popular and much-celebrated day in this country. It is interesting to know that more then 45%of the people over 50 celebrate this special day and more then 90%of the young between 18-24 age join them too. The people accept this day as a possibility to strengthen the love connection with their relatives, neighbors and friends.

Long time ago in Australia people celebrated very extravagantly this holiday. During the gold rush period some people became extremely rich. They ordered the most expensive and the most extravagant Valentines Day cards which costed thousands of pounds at that time. These cards have been made from satin cushion, decorated with flowers and colored shelves.
