Valentines Day Poems for Kids
A Song of Love
Love reckons not by time-
its May days of delight
Are swifter than the falling stars
that pass beyond our sight.
Love reckons not by time-
its moments of despair
Are years that march like prisoners,
who drag the chains they wear.
Love counts not by the sun-
it hath no night or day-
‘Tis only light when love is near-
’tis dark with love away.
Love hath no measurements
of height, or depth, or space,
But yet within a little grave
it oft hath found a place.
Love is its own best law-
its wrongs seek no redress;
Love is forgiveness-
and it only knoweth how to bless.
Cupid
Cupid and my Campaspe played
At cards for kisses; Cupid paid:
He stakes his quiver, bow, and arrows,
His mother’s doves, and team of sparrows;
Loses them too; then down he throws
The coral of his lip, the rose
Growing on’s cheek (but none knows how);
With these, the crystal of his brow,
And then the dimple on his chin;
All these did my Campaspe win:
And last he set her both his eyes -
She won, and Cupid blind did rise.
O Love! has she done this to thee?
What shall, alas! become of me?
Five Big Valentines
Five big valentines from the corner drug store
I mailed one to a friend - then there were four
Four big valentines, lovely ones to see
I mailed one to my Mommy - then there were three
Three big valentines - red, shiny, and new
I mailed one to my Daddy - then there were two
Two big valentines, the best is yet to come
I mailed one to Grandma - Then there was one
One big valentine, the giving is almost done
I mailed it to Grandpa - and now there is none
Five Little Valentines
One little valentine said, “I love you.”
Tommy made another; then there were two
Two little valentines, one for me;
Mary made another; then there were three.
Three little valentines said, “We need more.”
Johnny made another; then there were four
Four little valentines, one more to arrive;
Susan made another; then there were five.
Five little valentines, all ready to say.
“Be my valentine on this happy day.”
