Valentines Day

On February 14th is St Valentines Day. Around the world it is a traditional day when lovers express their feelings and love for each other and celebrate the spirit of love.

This holiday is named on a Christian priest Valentine. He was beheaded in the name of love. The legend says that he sent a love letter to the girl he loved and singed it “From your Valentine”. St Valentine became the patron of lovers. In our days we exchange our love notes in form of “Valentines”. Around the world people send approximately 1 billion Valentines each year. We sent more only at Christmas time.

Usually the lovers on this day send flowers, valentines and small gifts to each other. The modern symbols are heart shaped figures and the figure of the winged Cupid. The Roman mythology says Cupid was the son of Venus. She is the goddess of love and beauty. Cupid shoots the people with his magical arrows and causes the people to fall in love. Writing a love poem or love letter in this day is very typical on this day, because in our busy life usually we miss these special moments. The first love letter was sent of the duke of Orleans .He sent it to his wife from the prison in the Towers of London.

Most people spend days choosing the right present for this day because it is very difficult to decide which is the best one for the person who is very close to our heart. In this special day some of us prefer the comfort of their homes, preparing dinner or watching an interesting movie but others organize a dinner out in a romantic restaurant.

Whatever you decide, this should be the most romantic day in the year. Prove and show your real, pure love to the person next to you and enjoy the day.
